Standards Bodies

The organisations that write the technical standards regulation points at. Regulations tend to state objectives, and standards specify how to meet them, so compliance in practice often means conforming to a standard rather than reading the law directly.

Technical view

Relevant bodies include the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission jointly, whose committee produces the 42001 management system standard and related guidance; European bodies developing harmonised standards that confer presumption of conformity with the AI Act; and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for ethically aligned design series. Following a harmonised standard is typically the lowest-friction compliance route once one exists.
